In a devastating crash on the outskirts of Bengaluru, five people lost their lives late Saturday night when their car slammed into a road divider and subsequently collided with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus near Jindal on the Tumkur Highway. The impact left the vehicle severely mangled, with its bonnet crushed, windows shattered, doors broken, and seats and roof soaked in blood, according to officials at the scene.
The tragedy unfolded as the car, traveling along the busy Tumkur Highway, suddenly lost control. It veered into the divider, crossed over into the opposite lane, overturned, and struck the oncoming KSRTC bus. While all five occupants of the car succumbed to their injuries, the passengers on the bus escaped unharmed, a fact confirmed by police who rushed to the site.
This incident marks the second major road accident in Karnataka within a few days, coming just after a horrific multi-vehicle pile-up that claimed at least seven lives. That earlier crash occurred early Friday near M Satyavara village on the Dobbaspet–Hoskote Satellite Town Ring Road in Bengaluru Rural district, sparking widespread panic in the area.
Police from Nelamangala Police Station swiftly responded to the Saturday crash, securing the area and registering a formal complaint. Investigators are probing the exact cause of the loss of control, with no preliminary determination yet made. They are reviewing available CCTV footage from the Tumkur Highway to piece together the sequence of events.
The recent spate of accidents underscores ongoing concerns about road safety on Bengaluru's peripheral highways. In the Friday incident, an XUV 700 car first collided with a motorcycle before smashing into a Canter truck, snapping its rear axle and causing the truck to topple onto the service road. This triggered a chain reaction involving another SUV and a Maruti Brezza, leaving the Mahindra SUV severely damaged and multiple vehicles wrecked.
Authorities continue to monitor the crash sites, emphasizing the need for caution amid high-traffic conditions on these routes. As the investigation into the Tumkur Highway fatality progresses, Nelamangala Police have urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and road rules to prevent further tragedies.
