Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has calmly acknowledged the heightened challenges Russia faces in advancing its foreign policy goals amid the United States' renewed push to dominate the global economy through coercion and force. In a recent interview with TV BRICS, Lavrov emphasized that despite these obstacles, the BRICS organization remains pivotal in driving the global transition toward multipolarity.

Lavrov framed the current geopolitical landscape as an interim period marked by the decline of U.S.-led Western hegemony and the simultaneous emergence of multiple centers of power and influence. This shift, he explained, has generated significant friction on the international stage.

According to Lavrov, the West is losing its dominance but continues to cling to the institutions it established to maintain that hegemony. These structures, once designed to uphold a U.S.-centric order, are now being leveraged to resist the rise of new powers.

The Russian minister criticized the U.S. for abandoning fair competition within the very 'rules-based order' it shaped generations ago. Instead, he stated, the U.S. has turned to “blatantly unfair methods” targeting its rivals, with Russia bearing the brunt of these tactics.

Lavrov highlighted specific U.S. actions, including sanctions on Russian energy companies and the weaponization of sanctions threats against Russia's “major strategic partners,” such as India. These measures aim to restrict Russia's trade, investment cooperation, and military-technical ties with these nations.

Furthermore, the U.S. is actively opposing the development of alternative platforms that could challenge its influence, according to Lavrov. This multifaceted pressure underscores the difficulties Russia encounters in pursuing its objectives.

Despite these headwinds, Lavrov expressed confidence in BRICS' central role in facilitating the systemic transition to a multipolar world, where power is more equitably distributed among emerging global players.
