Chennai:The political turmoil inTamil Naduappears to be nearing a conclusion as actor-politician "Thalapathy" Vijay secured the backing of key DMK allies, including the CPI and CPI(M). Reports also suggest that another DMK ally, the VCK, has extended its support to the TVK, further strengthening Vijay’s bid to form the government. The TVK chief is scheduled to meet Rajendra Arlekar this evening to stake claim to power, with his swearing-in ceremony likely to take place on May 9. Notably, this will mark the third meeting between Vijay and the Governor within the past 48 hours. Sources told Times Now that Vijay will present support letters from the three DMK allies to the Governor.

In the recently concluded, Tamil Nadu polls, Vijay's TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, 10 short of the majority-mark. The Congress, a long-time DMK ally, extended support to the TVK., bringing its effective strength to 112. Notably, the TVK's numbers will drop to 107 after Vijay will vacate one of its two seats from where he contested the polls.. After the support of the CPI, the CPI(M) and the VCK, the TVK enjoys the support of 118 MLAs as all three parties have two seats each.Tamil Nadu Government Formation 2026 Live:

Left Not To Be Part of Cabinet:

The CPI and the CPI(M) announced that they ill not be part of the cabinet. "n the assembly election, no party has an absolute majority. Joseph Vijay has written a letter to both parties. If Government is not formed by 10th May, Governor rule will come. In Tamil Nadu, Governor rule is like BJP entering through the back door. DMK alliance's duty is to make sure not to make BJP Tamil Nadu. So, to end this, CPI and CPI(M) have decided to support TVK. We will not be in cabinet. Just to make sure there is no re-election, we took this decision," CPI(M) state secretary TT Shanmugam told reporters.

According to sources, the VCK has put forward four demands before the TVK for extending its support. As per the sources, the VCK demanded deputy CM post and one berth in the cabinet. It also asked for the MLA seat which Vijay will vacate. The VCK has also reportedly asked for the MP seat vacated by Thol Thirumavalavan.

In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the TVK bagged 1108 seats. The ruling DMK managed to win only 59 seats, while the main opposition party AIADMK bagged 47 seats.
