Born in West Bengal's Karkuli, Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was on May 8 elected the leader of the BJP legislature party in West Bengal, paving the way for him to become the first BJP chief minister of the state. Adhikrari has been an active politician in the state of West Bengal in the recent past, and is now set to become the next Chief Minister (CM) of the state after Mamata Banerjee. The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government will be held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on May 9.

Adhikari was born on 15 December 1970 in Karkuli, West Bengal, into Mahishya Kshatriya family. While it is not clear where did he finish his schooling from, Suvendu Adhikari holds a Master of Arts degree from Rabindra Bharati University. He earned this degree in 2011. Rabindra Bharati University is a public research university in Kolkata that was established on May 8 in 1962. This varsity was established under the Rabindra Bharati Act of the Government of West Bengal in 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore, and is located at the Tagore family home, Jorasanko Thakur Bari.

As per local reports, Adhikari studied at Contai High School, Purba Medinipur where he completed his primary and secondary education. Following this, he reportedly pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Pravat Kumar College (affiliated with Vidyasagar University), Contai.

His Sansad profile also states that he studied at Netaji Subhas Open University, but the degree he pursued is not listed at the page.

Suvendu Adhikari comes from a family of politicians. His father, Sisir Adhikari, had also served in the West Bengal legislative assembly and in the Lok Sabha. Suvendu's brother, Soumendu Adhikari, was also an elected candidate for Lok Sabha from Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency. His other brother, Dibyendu Adhikari, was also elected to Lok Sabha from Tamluk in 2019 as a member of Trinamool Congress.
