Amid the ongoing political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday said he would announce his party’s stand on government formation only after consulting party functionaries in a key meeting scheduled for the evening.
Speaking to reporters, Thirumavalavan said the VCK would hold an online meeting at 5 pm to deliberate on the fast-changing political situation in the state. “I want to discuss with my party functionaries before I take any call. I can announce my decision only after our 5 pm Zoom meeting,” he said, adding that he would address a press conference on Saturday morning to formally announce the party’s decision.
The VCK’s stand is being keenly watched as Vijay-led TVK continues efforts to secure enough support to form the government after emerging as the single largest party in the Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, sources in the TVK claimed there are growing fears of poaching attempts targeting its MLAs amid the intense political negotiations underway. Party legislators have reportedly been asked to remain confident and united, with the leadership assuring them that the TVK will succeed in forming the government.
In a related development, all 108 MLAs of TVK threatened to resign if the DMK and AIADMK attempted to stake claim to form the government in the state. As per sources, the TVK's decision came as the DMK authorised MK Stalin to take emergency decisions amid a lack of majority for the TVK. Vijay's party suspects that the AIADMK and DMK are working together to stop its bid for government formation.
