A prominent Conservative Member of Parliament from Canada's Bowmanville-Oshawa district has sharply criticized his own country's leadership for engaging in what he calls an "anti-American hissy fit" amid escalating trade tensions with the United States under President Trump.
Jamil Jivani delivered the rebuke during an exclusive interview on Sirius XM's Breitbart News Saturday, accusing Canadian officials of "shooting themselves in the foot" by responding hostilely to Trump's proposed tariffs and America First trade policies.
"What we're seeing from Canadian leadership is essentially an anti-American hissy fit," Jivani told listeners. He further warned, "Instead of engaging constructively with the Trump administration, they're throwing tantrums and making threats that only hurt Canadian workers and businesses."
The MP's comments arrive as relations between Canada and the U.S. have intensified since Trump's inauguration last month. The President has emphasized that his second term will focus on prioritizing American workers and industry through a comprehensive review of trade relationships that have disadvantaged the United States for decades.
Jivani contended that Canadian officials are failing to address the legitimate concerns about trade imbalances raised by the Trump administration, opting instead for emotional outbursts and retaliatory threats that benefit no one.
His outspoken assessment underscores a widening rift in Canadian politics, pitting conservative voices advocating for pragmatic engagement with Trump's policies against establishment politicians more focused on virtue signaling than safeguarding economic interests.
