The CPI, CPM and the VCK are likely to extend support to Vijay-led TVK as the uncertainty continues over government formation in Tamil Nadu, sources have told Times Now. The sources said that the Left parties and VCK have had a "change in mind", after reports of DMK and AIADMK mulling an alliance together to keep Vijay out of power. As per sources, all three parties are expecting cabinet berths in a possible TVK-led government.

Earlier, CPM state secretary TT Shanmugam said that the TVK should be invited to form the government. "According to the Constitution, it is TVK that should be allowed to form the government. We have never seen a situation like this in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and now we have a hung Assembly. It is the Governor who should invite Vijay to form the government because he is leading. So, the Governor is now saying that there is a High Court order, which is not right. We have a general body meeting of the party tomorrow, and following that, we will decide within two days on our stance on whether we are going to support Vijay or not. We met Stalin, considering the relationship we share, and spoke to him about the current election scenario. We also told him that the Governor should call only TVK and let Vijay take the oath as chief minister."

The Left tilt towards Vijay comes amid growing unease over reports of a possible DMK-AIADMK alliance. Sources said the CPM considers any such alliance "unacceptable" and believes it could indirectly strengthen the BJP politically in Tamil Nadu.

Senior Left leaders D Raja and MA Baby held discussions in New Delhi on Thursday. State-level leaders of the CPI and CPM are expected to hold high-level meetings later in the day to take a final call on whether to back Vijay. VCK is also expected to announce its stand today.

Meanwhile, TVK had called a meeting of its newly-elected MLAs at around 9.30 am this morning, adding to speculation over fast-moving political negotiations.

The Congress, meanwhile, has announced a statewide protest against Governor Rajendra Arlekar for not inviting Vijay to form the government.

Congress leader Manickam Tagore launched an attack on the DMK and the AIADMK over reports of a possible alliance between then, despite having been arch rivals in the past. Tagore tweeted, "Two Dravidian parties. Lifetime enemies. They became one overnight. Not for Tamil Nadu. Not for secularism. To stop one man. You cannot call yourself secular by sleeping with the RSS/BJP B-team. ‘Stable government’ is the political language of two scared parties to protect their power. Congress has rightly left."
