PresidentDonald Trumpfired off a 493-word post on Truth Social Saturday morning, blasting comedian Bill Maher and his HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher as "Very boring, ANTI TRUMP." Trump recalled a post he made on trade ties between Canada and China, in which he jokingly suggested that China might "terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."

Trump said Maher treated the comment as serious on his show, complaining: "Well, he went on and on about the Hockey statement, like ‘What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,’ as though I were being serious when I said it."

The president called Maher a "highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT" who is "slightly more talented" than late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert. He warned Republicans not to use Maher as an example of the Left shifting views: "Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way — Our Base, the Greatest of All Time, laughs at your weakness when you do it!"

Trump mentioned Maher's April visit to the White House, where they dined together. He said Maher asked to return and attend the Christmas party but never did. "Regardless, I’d much rather spend my time MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN than wasting it on him," Trump wrote.

He ended by saying Maher suffers from "a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), and there is nothing that will ever be done to cure him of this very serious disease."

Maher pushed back, saying the Hitler analogy was "insulting to six million dead Jews." Despite the initial positive comments, Maher soon resumed criticizing Trump. In May, he told the Free Press the president's first 100 days were a "s--tshow," citing issues like "disappearing people," DOGE inefficiency, ignoring the Supreme Court, and "killing people overseas with drastic aid cuts."

On Friday's Real Time, Maher accused Trump of a "pattern" of personal dealmaking for political favors. He noted the president made an estimated $1.4 billion in his first year back in office, including $867 million in crypto investments, and called crypto "money laundering."

The president's lengthy complaint highlights ongoing tensions between the White House and media figures who criticise him. It is safe to assume, during next week's show, Maher will use Trump's lengthy post, as a source material for his jokes.
