Iran's military has since accused the US of violating the ceasefire by targeting the oil tanker, as well as sending another ship through the Strait.

A spokesperson said: "The aggressive, terrorist, and pirate US military has violated the ceasefire." They accused the US of airstriking "civilian areas" along the "coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island".

The US strikes were launched "with the cooperation of some regional countries", they added, and responded with the attack on military vessels, "reportedly inflicting significant damage on them".
