Amid the ongoing situation in West Bengal, posts were being circulated, stating that Section 144 has been imposed in the capital, Kolkata. The Kolkata Police took to X and clarified the truth, stating that the posts are "fake and misleading". The fabricated posts claimed that prohibitory orders had been imposed in several areas, with Section 144 imposed in Khidirpur, Topsia, and Rippon Street.

According to the Kolkata Police, posts were circulating, stating, "TMC did bomb blast in Howrah, West Bengal. Following the blast, section 144 has been imposed in Khidirpur, Topsia, and Rippon Street."
Another post claimed something similar. It read, "Just an election victory, and this is the result. Now we have a bomb blast in Howrah, West Bengal. Following the blast, Section 144 has been imposed in Khidirpur, Topsia, and Rippon Street. Such is the impact."
Section 144 is a law used by authorities to stop large gatherings and maintain peace in sensitive areas. When imposed, people are usually not allowed to assemble in groups, hold protests, or carry weapons, helping officials prevent violence, unrest, or any threat to public safety.
The Kolkata Police, in an official post, clarified the truth, calling these posts fake and misleading. They added that no such order under Section 144 has been imposed in Kolkata.
"Several fake and misleading posts are being circulated on social media regarding the imposition of Section 144. It is clarified that no such order under Section 144 has been imposed within Kolkata Police jurisdiction," it stated.
"Kolkata Police is closely monitoring such content. Legal action is being initiated against those spreading misinformation or attempting to disturb public peace," they added.
The Kolkata Police further stressed that the law and order situation in Kolkata is fully under control. "Citizens are requested not to believe or share any unverified posts and to rely only on official sources for authentic updates."
