Pat Cummins is currently captaining the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2026. There were reports that the superstar Australian fast bowler, alongwith his Australia teammate Travis Head, were offered contracts worth Rs 94.3 crore each to play for the SRH and their respective sister franchises throughout the world instead of the Australian team. A year after this, Cricket Australia (CA) left no stone unturned to seal their captain's future, as Cummins has now been offered a multi-million dollar contract.
According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald, Pat Cummins has received an offer from CA worth Rs $12 million (INR 113 crore) for three years to ensure his availability as priority for the national team, especially Test matches till 2029. Travis Head has also received a similar offer.
This would see Cummin's currently salary grow exponentially by $1 million per year. Cummins is already the 15th highest earning athlete in Australia.
The contract would also see Pat Cummins get a substantial payout, more than what he got earlier, regardless of the number of matches that he plays.
The news of this contract comes amidst a time when Australia are scheduled to play 21 Test matches in 12 months, including home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, and important tours to England, South Africa and India.
CA’s head of cricket, James Allsopp saif that it was the need of the hour for players who have played so much for Australia to be getting higher salaries and rewarded.
“Absolutely. They’ve earned the right; they’ve been long-term performers for Australia across formats for a long period of time. There’s only so far you can take them under the current constraints. That’s definitely a priority at the moment," Allsopp told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“It is a really tricky balancing act. One thing we do know is that the market pressure is coming at the players who drive the most commercial value. Your multi-format players like Pat, Josh [Hazlewood] and Trav, there’s a lot of demand for those players. So ensuring they remain committed to Australian cricket is a really big priority," he added.
