A man was detained during a late-night traffic stop Friday as authorities carried out a large law-enforcement operation roughly two miles from the home of missing 84-year-oldNancy Guthrie, according to multiple media reports citing police sources. The stop came as SWAT teams and federal agents executed a search warrant nearby in connection with the ongoing disappearance investigation. The individual was pulled over near a fast-food restaurant during the operation and was being questioned in relation to the search warrant served in the area, according to a report by Fox News Digital. Officials also examined a vehicle at the scene.
Law-enforcement agencies including the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department converged on a residential area near East Orange Grove Road late Friday, blocking roads and keeping media at a distance while they pursued what officials described as an active lead in the case.
The operation unfolded about two miles from Guthrie’s Tucson-area residence and involved SWAT and forensic units searching a nearby property. Authorities confirmed the activity was directly tied to the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance but declined to release detailed information at the FBI’s request.
Separate reports indicate that multiple people were detained during the search of a nearby home that same night. However, officials have not said whether any of those individuals, or the man stopped in traffic, are suspects, and no arrests have been formally announced.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, have been missing since February 1 after evidence at her Tucson home suggested she may have been forcibly taken. Investigators have since pursued thousands of tips, examined surveillance footage of a masked intruder at her door and analysed DNA evidence collected at the scene.
