The deputy foreign minister of Iran is likely to visit India to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, reported ANI, citing sources from Iran. India holds the presidency for BRICS this year and will host the grouping's foreign ministers' meeting on May 14-15. However, an official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.

The theme for India's BRICS presidency is -- "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability". BRICS brings together eleven major emerging markets and developing countries of the world - Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

India's Ministry of Women and Child Development convened the first preparatory meeting of the BRICS Women's Working Group in virtual mode under India's presidency of the intergovernmental grouping this year. The meeting, held on April 30, reaffirmed India's commitment to promoting women-led development, recognising them as key drivers of economic growth, governance and social transformation, according to the ministry.

BRICS member nations, in their interventions, congratulated India on its chairship and expressed support for the identified priority areas, a ministry statement said.

India is all set to host the BRICS Women Working Group Meeting (July 6-7) and the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting (July 8-9).

Before this, a two-day meeting of agriculture ministers of BRICS member countries under India's presidency will be held in Indore in June to discuss food security, smart farming, global agricultural trade and farmer welfare.
