Tamil Nadu’spost-election political dramaintensified on Thursday (May 7) as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay once again met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan in Chennai and reiterated his claim to form the government, asserting that his party has the numbers required to prove majority on the floor of the House. According to sources, as cited by ANI, the Governor conveyed that Vijay can take the oath as Chief Minister only after TVK submits letters of support. “The Governor wants a stable government in Tamil Nadu. As soon as the numbers are proven, Vijay can take the oath,” sources told ANI.

During the meeting, Vijay reportedly submitted a fresh, detailed report to the Governor and requested that TVK be invited to form the government. The actor-politician is understood to have assured Raj Bhavan that the party is prepared to prove its strength through a floor test.

The second round of talks between Vijay and Governor Arlekar comes a day after TVK formally staked claim to power following the Tamil Nadu Congress extending support to the party in a dramatic post-poll development.

With Congress’ five MLAs backing TVK, Vijay’s tally rose from 108 to 113 — still five short of the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Amid the fast-moving political developments, TVK has shifted its MLAs to a luxury resort in Mamallapuram, triggering intense speculation over possible poaching attempts and behind-the-scenes negotiations. Around 70 MLAs are currently staying at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Poonjery, where security is reportedly being handled by Vijay’s private bouncers after the police convoy security given to him was suddenly withdrawn.

Reports also suggested that Vijay’s anticipated swearing-in ceremony, which was expected to take place after he met with the Governor, has now been put on hold.

TVK’s stunning debut performance in the Assembly elections has significantly altered Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, breaking the decades-long DMK-AIADMK dominance and throwing the state into an unprecedented coalition battle.
