Amid concerns over global oil and gas supply disruptions, the government has introduced a new “one home, one gas connection” rule aimed at ensuring fair distribution of cooking fuel. Under the new rule, households will no longer be allowed to keep both LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders and PNG (piped natural gas) connections at the same time. If a home already has a PNG connection, theLPG connectionmust be surrendered.

The move comes as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil and gas shipping route, have raised fears of supply disruptions. India imports a large share of its energy needs, making it vulnerable to global crises.

Oil and gas companies have started sending messages to consumers asking them to verify whether they have both LPG and PNG connections. Users with dual connections are being asked to surrender their LPG cylinders.

Authorities have warned that users who do not follow the rule may face penalties, disconnection of LPG services or stoppage of refills.

According to early estimates, around 50,000 users have already surrendered their LPG cylinders after receiving notices. Gas companies are also conducting verification drives to identify households with dual connections.

How to check if an LPG connection is linked to your mobile number

Consumers can verify their LPG connection details online through the official portal: mypngd.in

Users can also check details through the websites or apps of LPG providers such as Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas.

In some cases, the system may display the message: “No LPG connection is associated with this mobile number. Kindly verify and re-enter the correct registered mobile number.” This could mean the connection is registered under another family member’s number, the number was never updated with the gas agency, or the connection is already inactive or surrendered.
