After brief rain and hailstorm activity brought temporary relief from the heat, Delhi-NCR residents may now have to brace for a sharp rise in temperature over the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the mercury could climb close to 40 degrees Celsius again this week, with dry weather expected to dominate across the national capital region.
While cloudy skies and thunderstorms may still bring short-lived relief in some areas on May 7, weather experts say the cooling spell is unlikely to last long.
Areas including North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South-West Delhi, South-East Delhi, New Delhi, and Shahdara may witness thunder and lightning later in the day. NCR cities such as Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad are also likely to see cloudy conditions with thunder activity during the evening hours.
This could bring temporary relief from the heat and make the weather pleasant for a short duration.
For May 7, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may hover between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius. Over the past 24 hours, Delhi recorded temperatures nearly 5.7 degrees Celsius below normal due to recent rain activity, but temperatures are now expected to return to normal levels quickly.
The IMD has advised children, senior citizens, and people sensitive to heat to avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from May 10 onward. Its impact on Delhiās weather may become visible by the middle of next week. Until then, dry conditions and rising temperatures are expected to continue across all districts of Delhi-NCR.
