Surf City, USA… just without the ocean.
Deep in the California desert, a massive new luxury surf park promising 1,000 artificial waves an hour is officially set to open next summer.
DSRT Surf, a sprawling new surf resort in Palm Desert powered by Wavegarden Cove technology, announced it plans to launch in summer 2026 with a giant wave lagoon and luxury resort experience in the middle of the Coachella Valley, according to Surfer Magazine.
The project’s 5.5-acre surf lagoon is designed to generate up to 1,000 waves per hour using Wavegarden’s 52-module system, which creates multiple wave styles simultaneously for surfers of different skill levels.
“DSRT Surf’s 5.5-acre surf lagoon will deliver consistent, high-performance, ocean-like waves,” the company said in a release.
Unlike the ocean, where conditions constantly shift, the system is designed to produce repeatable waves every few seconds in a controlled environment.
But the development is aiming to be more than just a surf park.
Plans also include a 139-room “barefoot luxury” hotel, 57 private villas, restaurants, yoga spaces, pickleball courts and leisure pools.
Pro surfer Josh Kerr, who is involved in the project, told was quoted by Surfer as saying he believes the park could become a major draw for surfers.
“What excites me most is the opportunity it creates for so many surfers to experience consistent, high-quality waves in a destination setting,” Kerr told the outlet.
