The Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island will be hosting their occasional series, “Art from the Hive” through May 10 at their gallery on Terry Street. The inaugural exhibition, “Occupying Space: 9 @ BAT”launched earlier this spring.
This new series spotlights artists working in close proximity to each other in studios, buildings, or creative communities.
Patchogue Arts Council’s (PAC) MoCA has curated the work of the nine artists featured in the exhibit that include: Christina Giuffrida, Deming King, Caroline Heffron, Leekyung Kang, Linda Lee Nicholas, Macy Rajacich, Miranda Maher, Sophia Kayafas, and Whit Harris.
Caroline Otis Heffron was born in Berkeley, California, and lives in Brooklyn, New York. She has pursued painting and ceramics since graduating with her MFA from the School of Visual Arts. Heffron received her BA in Studio Art from St. Lawrence University, where she received The Frederick Remington Prize. In addition, her undergraduate degree included a semester in Florence for Art History with Syracuse University.
She is the founder of @artistsconnectedprojects, which brings artists together through inspiration and connected art themes.
On her figurative oil paintings and ceramics, Heffron said they “…connect historical and contemporary cultural symbols with body language in complex stacked compositions through the surrealistic female gaze.”
Leekyung Kang“explores liminal spaces at the intersection of cultural exchange, cosmology, and religious contexts. Through painting, drawing and installation, I uncover hidden realms on earth to disclose historical references from myth to science.”
Kang’s artwork has been featured in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including prestigious collections, like the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea, underscoring her impact on contemporary art.
