Cooper Connolly created history despite Punjab Kings' (PBKS) defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday (May 6) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The 22-year-old made 107 runs in 59 balls and remained unbeaten as the Shreyas Iyer-led side fell short by 33 runs to lose the top spot on the table.

The 22-year-old hit seven boundaries and eight sixes in his record-breaking knock, which came at a strike rate of 181.36.

Connolly created history and became the youngest overseas player to score a century in the IPL. The youngster is the first non-Indian player in the league's history to reach the three-figure mark in the league's history before turning 23. The record was previously held by South African cricket legend Quinton de Kock in 2016, while he played for the Delhi Daredevils (now known as the Delhi Capitals).

Connolly is also the youngest Australian to score a century in the league's history. Previously, the record belonged to David Warner, who set it 16 years ago in 2010.

Youngest Centurions For PBKS In IPL History

Meanwhile, Connolly is only the fourth player in IPL history to score a century in a losing cause during a run-chase. He is the first player to achieve the unwanted feat for PBKS and the youngest player on the elite list too. Only Rohit Sharma had previously remained unbeaten while scoring a century in the second innings of an IPL match and losing a match. This is also the first instance of the rare feat happening outside a venue in Mumbai.
