Pat Cummins-ledSunrisers Hyderabadhave taken the top spot in theIPL 2026points table after defeating Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings by a margin of 33 runs in match 49 of the tournament, which was being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, on May 6. SRH became the first team to reach 14 points and strengthened their chances to finish in the top two before the playoffs. As for PBKS, they were unbeaten in the first 8 matches but now have taken a hit after losing three consecutive games.
SRH are currently on top of the standings with 13 points and an NRR of +0.737. Meanwhile, PBKS have dropped to second place with 13 points. However, their NRR has fallen from +1.420 to +0.571. RCB have also dropped a place and are now at 3 and RR retain their 4th spot. The race to the playoffs is getting really interesting as even after SRH's jump, there are three teams with 12 points.
GT (12 points), CSK (10 points), and DC (8 points) are in the 5th, 6th, and 7th spots, respectively and have a chance to take the spot away from the current top four in the coming matches. Meanwhile, no team is officially out of this race, but the road ahead for the bottom three, KKR (7 points), MI (6 points) and LSG (4 points), is extremely difficult.
