Chennai:In a major twist in Tamil Nadu politics, sources are now claiming that arch rivals DMK andAIADMKare in talks to form an alliance in the state. The sources further claimed that both parties have sent feelers to the Tamil Nadu Governor, Rajendra Arlekar, that they have numbers to attain majority in the assembly. .

The DMK is reportedly waiting for the leadership crisis in the AIADMK to end. The development came after “Thalapathy” Vijay earlier today met the Governor and staked claim to form the government

In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu election, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) pulled up a surprise in its electoral debut by winning 108 seats, just 10 short of the majority mark. The effective strength of the TVK will be reduced to 107 after Vijay, who contested two assembly seats, has to vacate one of them. Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress, the long-term ally of the DMK, formally supported the TVK in the government formation. For the unversed, the grand old party has five MLAs in the state. After the Congress’s support, Vijay now has the support of 113 MLAs and needs five more legislators to form the government.

Can DMK and AIADMK Alliance Form Government?

The DMK managed to win 59 seats, and the AIADMK bagged only 47 seats. Even if both parties join hands, then also the alliance, which will be formed, will fall short of the majority mark by 12 seats. In this scenario, smaller parties, like VCK, have to come forward to support the DMK-AIADMK alliance.

However, reports also surfaced that more than half of AIADMK MLAs are in favour of backing the TVK in the government formation. There is no official confirmation in this regard.

DMK spokesperson A Saravanan denied the reports of the possibility of an alliance between the two arch rival.
