Kolkata:Trinamool Congress chiefMamata Banerjee, during her meeting with the party’s newly elected MLAs on Wednesday at Kalighat, said that she would not resign from the chief minister’s post, reported news agency ANI, citing sources. Further challenging the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, Banerjee said, let them dismiss her from the CM’s post.

Notably, senior TMC leaders, including the party's general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, were also present at the meeting. “After the Bengal INDIA team is united now. I won’t resign. Let them dismiss me. I want this to be a black day. We have to be strong,” Banerjee said, as reported by ANI, citing sources. She even asked TMC MLAs to wear black clothes on the first day of the new assembly's session.

“Those who betrayed will be removed from the party. I am laughing. I defeated them morally. I am a free bird. I worked for all. We might have lost but we will fight. HM and PM are directly involved,” she added.

The TMC supremo also alleged malpractice during the polling in the state. “Those who lost were forcefully defeated. I condemn West Bengal Police, CRPF, BJP-minded Chief Electoral Officer and ECI. More than 1500 party offices were hijacked. I was heckled and pushed. I was having chest pain. This was not an election but an atrocity,” the outgoing West Bengal CM said as per AITC sources.

After the meeting, the TMC also posted pictures of it on its official X handle. “Our Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial and National General Secretary Shri @abhishekaitc addressed a meeting with our leaders in Kalighat, instilling in them clarity, confidence, conviction, and a renewed sense of purpose to continue the good fight,” the party said in a statement.

“Whether in power or not, our commitment to serve the people of Bengal remains steadfast. We will continue to stand by them and resist BJP’s tyranny and oppression tooth and nail,” it added.

On Tuesday, Banerjee reiterated the “vote chori” allegation against the BJP after the West Bengal poll loss. In her first press conference, after the election results, Banerjee called the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) as a “BJP agent.” She accused the BJP of playing “dirty, nasty and mischievous games.” In a shocking remark, the TMC supremo said that she would not resign from the CM post, insisting that her party had not lost the polls.

“The question of my resignation does not arise, as we were defeated not by a public mandate but by a conspiracy… I did not lose; I will not go to Lok Bhavan. They can take action as per constitutional norms,” she told the press conference in Kolkata. Banerjee alleged large-scale irregularities in the counting process, claiming that the mandate in nearly 100 seats was “looted” and that counting was deliberately slowed down to demoralise her party.

In the recently concluded West Bengal elections, the BJP registered a resounding victory by winning 207 seats, while the TMC managed to bag only 80 seats. Mamata Banerjee even lost the Bhabanipur seat to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari.
