Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam(TVK) chief Vijay, who met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked claim to form the next government in the state, may not be able to take oath on Thursday (May 7) as he does not have the numbers on paper to prove the majority — that is, support of 118 MLAs, sources said.
The actor-turned politicianJoseph Vijay’s TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, 118 is the majority mark to form the government.
Vijay is likely to take oath as Chief Minister on May 7 (tomorrow, Thursday), according to party sources. But, since he has not been able to prove the majority on papers as he staked claim to form the government, his swearing-in tomorrow may be under the shadow of clouds.

According to sources, Vijay proposed to form the government with the support of 112 MLAs, however, he was asked to come back again with the support of 118 MLAs. This means that the actor-politician falls short of six MLAs.
Vijay has publicly said that the Congress approached him with support, but he didn’t place it officially during the meeting with the governor.
Vijay's TVK won 108 seats, emerging as the single largest party, followed by DMK with 59, AIADMK with 47, Congress with 5, PMK with 4, IUML with 2, CPI with 2, VCK with 2, CPI-M with 2. BJP, DMDK, and AMMK won 1 seat each.
With Vijay also to step down from one of the two seats he won in the assembly polls, the effective strength of TVK in the assembly will become 107.
Vijay himself won from both the constituencies, Tiruchirapalli East and Perambur, and proved that his charisma is not limited to cinema.
In a bid to seek more support, TVK has also apparently approached AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS).
