Just a month after Santa Monica revealed plans to revitalize the3rd Street Promenadewith the help ofoutdoor alcohol consumption, another city is following in its footsteps.
Culver Cityunanimously approved an ordinance in April to create a Downtown Entertainment Zone, which would allow patrons of various businesses to purchase and consume alcohol outside from various places.
Patrons would not be able to bring in outside alcohol, and they could only drink alcohol provided by vendors within that zone, during permitted events.
The creation of the Downtown Culver City Entertainment Zone was first introduced in October 2025, though it will differ greatly from its Santa Monica counterpart.
While Santa Monica’s Entertainment Zone allows people to consume alcohol outside from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. between Friday and Sunday, Culver City’s version will only be open for certain events.

The city council approved the Downtown Culver City Entertainment Zone to be open for the Annual Culver City Car Show, Downtown Culver City Holiday Tree Lighting Sled-tacular, Annual Downtown Culver City Independence Celebration, Summer Concert Series, Third Wednesdays and Culver City Pride & Rally.
The draft for the project’s management plan states the Entertainment Zone is, “intended to function as an economic development and placemaking tool that supports downtown businesses, enhances visitor experience, and compliments existing City and community special events.”
They also hope that visitors will be encouraged to, “linger, socialize, and explore Downtown during permitted events.”
They hope the zone will expand the city’s footprint as a walkable neighborhood and, “increase foot traffic and sales for participating restaurants and bars,” which will, “generate spillover benefits for surrounding retail and service businesses.”
