AfterPunjabwitnessed two consecutiveblastsin Jalandhar and Amritsar, DGP Gaurav Yadav addressed a press conference on Wednesday, stating that Pakistan's ISI is trying to "disturb the situation" in the state. Sharing preliminary details of the investigation, DGP Yadav said that it appears that an improvised device was assembled, which seems to be an attempt of the ISI. His claims contradict the remarks by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, who alleged a BJP hand in the incident.
"We are living in a state of proxy war, and inputs keep coming, and we keep on acting on it. Punjab is a frontline state, as our CM has said many times, that Punjab is fighting for the country... No claim has come about this incident. So, we are investigating. So, it appears that an improvised device was assembled. Most likely, because no wires have been found, either it is a timed explosion or it has been done with a remote... We are working on the clues received from CCTV analysis," said DGP Gaurav Yadav.
"I would like to inform you that there is an attempt by an ISI. They are creating a fake narrative and are trying to show that Punjab is disturbed... I would like to say Punjab is the most peaceful state in the country. A handful of elements from Pakistan's ISI are trying to disturb the situation in Punjab," he added.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday condemned recent incidents of explosions in Amritsar and Jalandhar, calling them part of a larger effort by the BJP to instigate violence ahead of elections.
Addressing the media, he alleged, "Investigation is underway into these minor blasts. This is the BJP's preparation for the Punjab elections. BJP gets votes by spreading violence and fear among people. I want to tell the BJP to stop. The people of Punjab always want peace. Wherever the BJP has to contest elections, it goes there and creates fights."
Jalandhar saw the first blast after a scooter caught fire around 8 pm outside the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier headquarters. Hours later, another blast occurred in Khasa near the cantonment area in Amritsar at around 10:50 pm, prompting a swift response from police and security agencies.
Currently, a preliminary investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
