Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) havedecided to extend its full supportto the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in Tamil Nadu. This comes after no party secured the required majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, with TVK emerging as the single largest party, winning 108 seats.

While Congress's support brings some stability in the political landscape of the state, the party has placed key conditions for its support. These, as per sources, include a demand for two cabinet berths, along with significant roles such as chairmanships of boards and corporations. Congress is also likely to insist that TVK refrain from seeking support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or any constituents of the NDA to form the government.

If these conditions are accepted, Congress believes it will be in a stronger position to persuade its allies, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), to extend support to TVK as well.

Smaller parties also registered a presence, with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), and Indian Union Muslim League winning 2 seats each. The Bharatiya Janata Party managed 1 seat, while others, including Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, together accounted for 3 seats.
