Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, while speaking at the ET Now Global Business Summit (GBS) 2026, framed India’s digital journey over the past decade as nothing short of a structural economic reset. Describing the creation of an invisible “digital highway” under the Modi government, Scindia argued that affordable data, mass broadband access and indigenous telecom infrastructure have fundamentally rewired how business, commerce and governance operate in India. India has gone from 60 million broadband users a decade ago to nearly 1 billion today, and from data costing Rs 287 per GB to just Rs 9.
India, he said, aims to convert what has often been described as a digital divide into a digital dividend, positioning itself not just as a consumer of technology, but as a standard-setter and global contributor in the next generation of telecom.

Looking ahead, Scindia said India is for the first time participating in global standard-setting for 6G at platforms such as 3GPP and the ITU. The Bharat 6G Alliance, set up in 2023, has grown from 18 to 100 stakeholders across startups, tech firms, telecom operators and government. Its mandate is to secure 10 per cent of global patents when 6G standards are finalised.
The ET NOW Global Business Summit (GBS) 2026 is being held on February 13 and 14 at the Taj Palace. The theme this year is “A Decade of Disruption. A Century of Change.”
The summit focuses on how technology, geopolitics, capital, and society are rapidly changing the world. Key topics include economic disruption, Industry 5.0, globalisation, workforce changes, energy security, and business diversification.
Organised by The Times Group, GBS is positioned as a global leadership forum where top policymakers, industry leaders, and experts discuss future challenges and opportunities, and shape ideas that could define the coming decades.
